Mine has only just emerged. It's made a slow start but it usually goes like the blazes once it gets into the soil. We still have a few in the freezer from last year, they've been so prolific.
Have you tried "Fat baby" achocha -Cyclanthera brachystachya? Similar flavour, less likely to be mistaken for marijuana by enthusiasts and law enforcement types alike - grows insanely vigorously, even outside in the UK. Good (just like C. pedata) for controlling blood sugar levels, apparently.

Your achocha looks great! It's doing so much better than mine is, so far this year. Mine hasn't really got going.
