Seed Sowing

Just to test viability - I've sown some home saved winter lettuce seeds, plus some chantenay carrots.

The photo has been added for a chum....

Found your blog via the Grapevine forum on Grow Your Own...
You are obviously expert at growing Celeriac. I have just sown some seeds today. The variety is "Brilliant". The last two years I have grown "Monarch" which is supposedly THE best, but the results were disappointing, so I thought I would try a different type. Despite copious watering, mine only developed to the tennis-ball size. When growing them in pots, do they get really big or not?

Hi.
I usually grow celery in pots, celeriac in the ground. Try not putting it in too deep when you plant it out - or you get too many roots. Also, a good root veg fertiliser will promote root growth over leaf or fruit [phosphorus rather than too much nitrogen or potassium/potash].
